Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui potensi estrogenik zearalenon pada puyuh, dan struktur histologis magnum setelah diperlakukan dengan zearalenon. Tiga ratus anak puyuh berumur 7 hari dibagi menjadi 30 kelompok, 10 ekor per kelompok, 3 kelompok kontrol negatif, 3 kelompok kontrol positif, 12 kelompok perlakuan dan 12 kelompok standard. Kelompok kontrol negatif tanpa perlakuan apapun, kelompok kontrol positif disuntik secara subkutan dengan pelarutnya, selama 5 hari berturut-turut. Kelompok perlakuan dan kelompok standard masing-masing disuntik dengan zearalenon 2,5; 5; 10 dan 20 mg/kg bb, dan etinil estradiol dosis 0,0125; 0,025; 0,05; 0,1 mg/kg bb yang dilarutkan dalam minyak wijen. Hewan percobaan dibunuh pada 1, 5 dan 10 hari setelah suntikan terakhir. Bagian tengah magnum diambil, kemudian diproses untuk ditanam dalam resin, lainnya diproses untuk direkam dengan SEM. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dosis zearalenon 20 mg/kg bb menyebabkan berat basah saluran telur meningkat, dan diikuti dengan perubahan struktur dari lapisan mukosanya. Potensi estrogenik zearalenon adalah 1000 kali lebih rendah daripada etinil estradiol. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa zearalenon mempunyai potensi estrogenik jauh lebih lemah daripada estradiol. Struktur histologi magnum yang diperlakukan dengan zearalenon, perkembangannya kurang
maju apabila dibandingkan dengan yang diperlakukan dengan etinil estradiol.

The main purpose of the research is to study the estrogenicity of zearalenone on quails, and the histological structure of magnum after zearalenone treatment. Three hundreds of seven day old female quails were used in this study and devided into 30 groups of 10. The first 3 groups for negative control, the second 3 groups for positive control, 12 groups for treatment (zearalenone), another 12 groups for treatment (ethinyl estradiol). The first 3 groups were used as control without any treatment, the following 3 groups were injected subcutaneously with vehicle only for 5 days consecutively. The 12 groups and the last 12 groups were treated with zearalenone and ethinyl estradiol dissolved in sesame oil respectively. Zearalenone and ethinyl estradiol was given at the dosage of 2.5; 5; 10; 20 mg.kg-1 bw. and 0.0125; 0.025; 0.05; 0.1 mg.kg-1 bw., respectively. Animals test were killed on the 1st, 5th, and 10th days after the last injection. The middle part of magnum were processed for epoxy resin embed and the other part was prepared for SEM observations. The results of this study indicated that the dose of zearalenone at 20 mg.kg-1 bw caused the structural changes of mucous layer. Estrogenic activity shown by the effect of zearalenone treatment was 1000 times lower than those of ethinyl estradiol. It can be concluded that zearalenone has lower estrogenic activity than estradiol. Histological structure of oviduct treated with zearalenone is less develop than those of the ethinyl estradiol.
