Boys and Girls Club of MetroWest’s Pearl Street Clubhouse in Framingham Receives $5,000 From BJ’s Wholesale Club, Members and Procter & Gamble -Funding to support homework help and tutoring Power Hour program-
Natick, Mass. (April 24, 2009) – The Boys and Girls Club of MetroWest’s Pearl Street Clubhouse in Framingham received a $5,000 grant from BJ’s Wholesale Club, its Members and its Vendor Partner Procter & Gamble (P&G) to honor their commitment of giving back to local communities. The grant will support Power Hour, the Club’s homework and tutoring program, designed to raise the academic proficiency of Boys & Girls Club members ages 6-12. Throughout the month of March, when BJ’s Members purchased selected P&G products, a portion of the proceeds benefitted this important effort. “We are thankful for support from BJ’s Wholesale Club and its Vendor Partner Procter & Gamble,” said Fran Hurley, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metrowest. “It is especially important during these challenging economic times, when our services are in even higher demand that we continue to raise the funds that are critical to providing quality out-of-school programs, like Power Hour, here in the Framingham community.” BJ’s Wholesale Club, its members and P&G donated $5,000 grants to 19 other Boys and Girls Clubs’ Power Hour programs in various communities BJ’s serves. The recipients were chosen based on their need and proximity to a BJ’s location. “BJ’s Wholesale Club is proud to support local Boys and Girls Clubs throughout our footprint. Their commitment to creating a learning environment filled with educational activities, like Power Hour, ensures that children develop academically in a safe environment,” said Jessica Newman, BJ’s manager of community relations. “For the last few years, BJ’s has supported various Boys & Girls Clubs distributing $88,000 in grants through the BJ’s Charitable Foundation, and we will continue to fund these valued community organizations well into the future.” About the Boys and Girls Clubs of MetroWest The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest serves over 3,200 children and youth each year with a low membership fee of only $25 per child, which makes it one of the largest and most affordable Boys & Girls Club organizations in Massachusetts. 2009 marks our historic 65 years of providing quality out-of-school programming for the children and youth of greater Marlborough, Hudson and Framingham.
