This lesson will give Explain that over next few weeks we’ll be looking at a special festival celebrated by Jewish people, Can chn talk about Introduce idea of standing up for your beliefs. Briefly ask chn what would they stand-up for and part of the story of Haman think worthwhile fighting for and why? Explain the story we’ll be learning about is about heroes and villains, good overcoming evil, courage and Explain that word Purim means ‘lots’ and refers it means to stand up to the lottery that Haman used to choose the date for the massacre of Jews. Story is told in the book of Esther, which comes from a scroll ‘The Megillah’ and would be read in a synagogue. Begin to tell the story of Esther to where Hanan decides to persecute the Jews and casts lots to decide where the massacre should take place. (allocate roles to chn to read) Discuss character traits and what actions tell us about each character. Can we see who villains/heroes are yet? Create own Megillah to record story.
