"L'Atelier lyrique 2010-2011" February 11th-13th, 2009
For its 21st edition, the International Singing Competition of Clermont-Ferrand takes the path of ? Bel canto ? from Haendel to Rossini and maintains his original mission of new talents discovery, vocal training and high-level professional integration with a prestigious jury chaired by Teresa Berganza. The competition will lead up to the creation of “L’Atelier lyrique”, which will take place in 2010-2011. At least 10 artists will be engaged in several productions in 2009, 2010 and 2011, in Clermont-Ferrand but also in other towns of Auvergne Region, at La Chaise-Dieu Festival, in Lyon Soloists-Bernard T?tu’s season program.

45 singers will be preset on file and allowed to compete in February 2009.
Deadline
Files have to be sent at the latest on December 1st 2008, the date on postmark attesting.
Registration
The preselection is made on full filled file and on two airs (opera, oratorio or melody) recorded in 2008 on CD, DVD or video cassette, according to the choice of the artist. These airs will not necessarily be taken from a work auditioned in the competition. The results of the preselection will be published at the latest on December 15th 2008 on the web page of the competition and communicated on every successful applicant’s by E-mail. This will include the information concerning their participation.
Age limit
Preset singers’ registration is only agreed by the payment of the amount of €50, to be done between December 15th and 30th 2008, by transfer on the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne’s account. The applicant, in case of not having settled his right after December 30th 2008, will be excluded from the competition. If for any reason the applicant cancels, the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne will keep the amount (€50) for administrative costs. If the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne cancels at any time or for any reason, the amount will be sent back to the applicant.
Auditions Audition program
Each singer can audition for one or several parts. The audition program has to contain 5 airs of the candidate’s choice in the auditioned works and/or taken from works of the composers of the competition: Haendel, Piccinni, Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini. The airs will be necessarily sung by heart and in the original language.
In La Cambiale di matrimonio by G. Rossini, recitatives are replaced by text in French. A short text in French will be sent by the Internet to singers applying for a part in this opera, as soon as the registration is effective in December 2008. It has to be learnt by heart for a closed-door test in front of the stage director.
For Didone abbandonata by N. Piccinni, extracts will be sent by the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne on demand.
Auditions
Summons The day and the hour of passage as well as the hour of rehearsal will be communicated by the Internet on December 15th 2008 to every preset singer.

Accompanists Three accompanists (2 pianists and 1 harpsichord) are hired by the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne and at the singers’ service for the rehearsals and the competitions.
Rehearsals They will take place in the Maison de la Culture of Clermont-Ferrand. February 11th, 2009: 9:30 – 13:30 and 17:00 – 19:30 February 12th, 2009: 9:30 – 13:30 February 13th, 2009: 10:00 – 14:00
Competitions Open to the public except for the closed-door test of text (La Cambiale di matrimonio by G. Rossini) Alphabetical order will be applied throughout the competition.
Eliminatory auditions February 11th 2009: 14:00 – 17:00 (15 singers) February 11th 2009: 20:00 – 23:00 (15 singers) February 12th 2009: 14:00 – 17:00 (15 singers) Each artist have to sing two airs chosen by the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne in the candidate’s audition program, and mentioned on the accepted file in December 2008 (max 10 min)
Test of text February 12th 2009: 17:30 – 19:30 This competition only concerns singers applying for a part in La Cambiale di matrimonio by Rossini.
Final February 13th 2009: 20:00 The airs sung are chosen by the jury in the candidate’s audition program.
The prize winners will be engaged in “L’Atelier lyrique 2010-2011” at the following conditions:
The organizer will take charge of journey and accommodation expenses, rehearsals, concerts and performances.

These engagement agreements will be concluded between the singers and: - The Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne (for all the works) - Festivals or seasons organizers as part of the tour. Prize winners must give a written statement saying that they are free from any commitment during the rehearsals and the performances periods. Failure to attend rehearsals or performances for any reason will cancel the prize.
Concerts tour
The Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne and its partners undertake the increase of venues of the operas performed in Clermont-Ferrand. Singers will be told of these, according to their free periods.
The jury of the competition is chaired by the famous mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza. Chosen by the administrative board of the Centre lyrique Clermont-Auvergne, it is composed of international personalities of the world of opera, theatre and music. Its decisions are definitive. A member of the jury who is or was a master of one of the candidate in the last years, can’t take part neither in the considerations nor in the votes concerning this artist.
