A JOYOUS CRUISE A man had arranged to go on a two week cruise with his girlfriend. A couple of days before the departure, the travel agent phones and tells him the cruise has been cancelled but he can get him on a three-day cruise instead. The fellow agrees and goes to the chemist to buy three Condoms and three Dramamine. Next day, the agent calls again and tells him he can now book him on a five-day The man tells the agent he will take it and returns to the same pharmacy and buys two more Dramamine and two more Condoms. The following day, the travel agent calls once again and lets him know that he can now book an eight-day cruise for him. The chap once again agrees and goes back to the same Chemist and asks for three more Condoms and three more Dramamine. Finally the Chemist says to him "Look mate if it makes you so sick why the bloody hell do you do it?.

With our final game this round and no sight of finals, we were determined to finish on a high note. With a few players already missing, what transpired in the 2 days prior to the game had to be seen to be believed. The squad was named on Friday with 40 players representing the Supers and Masters. By game day, we were down to just 31. We were able to get a new player and a legend from the vets to give us a hand. With a few masters doubling up, we had 20 in our team. Facing a much improved Plenty Valley, who were sitting in 2nd place, things looked grim for us as we were grossly undermanned. However, as it has been the attitude all year, no one complained or said anything and just got on with the game and every player should be commended on that. With coach Ray Shaw watching both his sons play football in Sydney, club president Chris Richardson filled the almighty shoes. In the first quarter, we just went head to head with Plenty Valley and they were just far too good for us kicking 5 goals to 1, and we looked to have the job in front us. Even though we were down by 26 points, there were good signs as we were turning over the ball and knew if we improved in this area, we could work our way back into the game. That’s exactly what happened in the 2nd quarter. Richo made a few moves and turned the game into a more contested style game which did not suit Plenty Valleys runners. In this quarter, both teams had kicked 3goals 1 behind so the margin was still 26 points at half time.

With our midfield doing well with Powelly, Kingy and Pila getting plenty of the ball, our defence was steady led by Stevie Gamble, who has had a great year, Matty Hart was providing us with plenty of run, and with Adrian contesting every forward thrust, we were looking forward to the 2nd half. Patty Buttigieg, who had already played in the vets, displayed tremendous courage by picking on the bigger blokes. Also, Macca with hair brought a mate along in Jamal who showed plenty of talent. The boys were pumped and Richo made more moves but this quarter saw Plenty Valley get on top but they couldn’t put the score on the board. They only kicked 1 goal but had amassed 8 behinds and we only managed 1 point ourselves so the margin at ¾ time was 39 points. A win seemed out of reach but the boys were not prepared to give up. In fact, we got on top in the final quarter, and Ben Savage, who was a little quiet in the first half, was getting plenty of the ball and was providing us with a lot of drive. Both defences had 2 extra men down back and it was played between both half back lines but we were looking more dangerous to score than they were. Rusty earnt himself a free kick by receiving a head high tackle ( so it must have been pretty low to the ground ) and sent through a monster of a kick of about 20 metres out from goal on a 45 degree angle. For the 2nd game in row, we kept the opposition scoreless so it was a credit to all the boys for fighting the game out. Just would like to thank all the boys who played in the supers and those that have helped out during the year. Our results haven't been that bad overall and if we stick together and pick up a couple of younger boys, a few wins next year is not out of our reach. Final Score

MASTERS MATCH REPORT Having a fair few pull out in the last minute, we were once again undermanned but had help from a few of the vets boys to come up against local boys Plenty Valley who needed a win to keep their finals chances alive. Thanks to Plenty Valley for giving us a few of their boys to help us out. The game started in a frantic pace and unlike last game, we were switched on from the start. Our tackling in the first 10 minutes was easily the best all year, however, our boys were not rewarded for their efforts. The game was close with Plenty Valley up by 8 points at the first break. In the 2nd quarter, we started to get on top with Mick Rowley controlling the centre, Hooter was a providing us a target up forward and as usual, our backs with Jamie, Maurie, Obie, and Daniel were once again reliable and we kept Plenty Valley to just one goal and we managed two goals to put our noses in front at half time. Words of encouragement came from our coaching staff and the boys were pumped and Plenty were in panic mode as they needed to win this game. The 3rd quarter was a tight contest with neither side giving an inch and Plenty were missing some easy shots and kicked 2.5 for the quarter and we managed 2.1 to just be behind by a couple of points.

The last quarter saw our boys just run out of legs and Plenty made the most of their opportunities and got on top and kicked 6 goals and we were held to just 1 point and Plenty Valley ran out 39 point winners. The score line did not reflect the closeness of the game. Just like to thank all the boys who played in the masters this year. We were competitive in most games and were unlucky to not come away with a couple of more wins. Like to thank all the vets players who helped fill in a side and special mention to Joey and Bondy for giving us plenty of insight and wisdom throughout the year. Final Score

GAME DAY MATCH REPORT Round 9 Date 12th August 2012 Opposition Brunswick Ground Clifton Park 11.00am Start 1st Qtr. Nice to see D.V team back in those familiar black and white jumpers again. Unfortunately the last time for season 2012. The Coach could not play due to a bad back (we think it was from the night before). Both teams lined up in a guard of honour for Ming to crash through a banner to celebrate his 171st gameof Superules – nice gesture by both clubs. Our Coach assembled a good (or is it a great?) team to take on Mings' boys at Clifton Oval which was very muddy and slippery. D.V had a good supply of numbers, 20 in all. The siren sounded to let all know that there is only 70 minutes of the home and away season left. This quarter saw both teams evenly matched having 5 scoring shots each. Good players this term: Ash, Brassy, Captain Grinder, Brian P, Shane and Paddy. Goals: Pittsy 2, John U 1. D.V 3-2-20. Brunswick 2-3-15. 2nd Qtr. All players were sliding like snow boarders - Ash taking some good grabs to turn the opposition back many times. Our boys did not use the outer wing very often due to deep mud so it was the centre corridor and club house wing that got the action. The Magpies held the Buns to a one goal score whilst booting 2 goals 1 behind of their own. Good players this term: Ash, Griffo, Grinder, Shane, Pittsy, Paddy, Frank and Brian P. Goals: John U kicked them both. D.V 5-3-33. Brunswick 3-3-21.

3rd Qtr. This term saw a repeat of the first 2 quarters with the Coach making a few moves because of the 20 available players. It is a delight to see that the players coming off were happy to do so to give team mates a run (Good team spirit). The boys were combining well and kept tight control of the game to the point that the Brunswick boys did not score this term whilst D.Vpopped on 1 goal 1 behind. To our surprise we saw Mr MP give at least two handballs and a short pass on the forward line - one resulting in a goal but this but this was not enough to earn him another a gold star. Good players: Wazza, Pittsy, Laurie, Vince, Shane and Brian D. A goal to Tony S. D.V 6-4-40. Brunswick 3-3-21. 4th Qtr. With no disrespect to the Brunswick boys the D.V guys were too good for them on the day keeping them to a scoreless 2nd half of the game. Games final scores D.V 6-5-41 Brunswick 3-3-21. Good umpiring by Field and Goal helped make it a pleasant game to watch. It was nice to see a brightly lit scoreboard which could be seen from all points of the ground. Mal and his team would like to thank President Chris Richo, Peter Dyson, Nick Pomella for turning up in support of Mal and his team and your reporter would like to thank Tony Nicolaci for his help with the stats on the day. Also the team and club would like to thank Alex Beveridge for his medical help in strapping the boys. Many thanks to Melinda and Linda for their assistance with the water. Your reporter would like to thank Mal and his team for their help and encouragement throughout Season 2012 and here's hoping we can stick together for at least another year. It's nice to know that Mal will be back in the box as Coach in 2013! Unfortunately the saga of the prominent D.V player who tried to hit on an opponents partner cannot be finalised as this reporter cannot obtain any further information as his inside source has gone missing due to being threatened with the thumb screws (Ouch!!!). Good luck go well. ANDERSON GOLD STAR AWARD : COACH MAL GRIFFITH CLUB DUMMY SPIT AWARD : NOT REQUIRED.
