B.C.’S ECONOMIC ADVISORY COUNCIL David Emerson, chair David Emerson is CEO and chair of the BC Transmission Corporation and senior advisor for CAI Capital Management, a private equity firm. He was a federal Member of Parliament from 2004-2008, during which time he served as Minister of Industry, Minister of International Trade and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He has served in chief executive and senior leadership roles at Canfor Corporation, the Vancouver Airport Authority, the B.C. Trade Development Corporation, and Western and Pacific Bank of Canada. He has also served in the Government of British Columbia through the 1970s and 1980s as Deputy Minister of Finance, and Deputy Minister to the Premier. Mr. Emerson has served on numerous corporate boards, including Telus, Terasen Gas and BC Ferries. He was the first chair of the BC Progress Board, and has also served on the boards of the Canada West Foundation, the Forest Products Association of Canada and the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. Sarah Boatman Sarah Boatman is the chief financial and operations officer at BigPark, an interactive entertainment company founded in 2007. Prior to joining BigPark in October, Sarah was director, finance and business development at Electronics Arts in Vancouver where she was involved in strategic and business planning for Black Box Studio and EA Montreal from 2004 to 2008. Ms Boatman is on the board of directors of Atira Women’s Resource Society and is a member of the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs. Sarah is a graduate of the MBA program at Harvard Business School (2000) and holds a bachelor of engineering degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University. Barry Marsden Barry Marsden is the chairman of Cascade Aerospace Inc. and Conair Group Inc. Beginning his aviation career in 1954, he was one of the founders of Conair in 1969. In 2000, he formed Cascade Aerospace. Mr. Marsden holds numerous board memberships, including the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada, the Abbotsford Economic Development Commission, and the Abbotsford Airport Authority. Mr. Marsden holds an honourary doctor of technology degree from the University College of the Fraser Valley. George Melville As co-chairman and co-owner of T&M Management Services, George Melville oversees a multifaceted organization which includes Boston Pizza International, Mr. Lube and Global Entertainment Corp., among others. Mr. Melville is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia and is an active member of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association and the Vancouver Board of Trade. He sits on the board of governors for Kwantlen Polytechnic University and is a director of Global Entertainment Corporation and the Okanagan Innovation Fund. Peter Misek Peter Misek is managing director, global technology strategist and head of research with Canaccord Adams (Canada). Mr. Misek joined Canaccord in 2005 as a senior technology analyst, and currently provides leadership to Canadian-based analysts. Mr. Misek also worked with JP Morgan and NM Rothschild & Sons in London, England, gaining transactional experience on three continents and building global perspective. Mr. Misek Peter holds his CA, CPA and CFA designations. Sean Morrison Sean Morrison is the co-founder of the Maxam Opportunities Fund LP, a multi-million dollar private equity fund. Mr. Morrison was formerly a partner at Capital West Partners, a Vancouver-based investment banking firm where he advised companies across Canada with respect to capital raising, IPOs, debt restructurings, asset sales, acquisitions, valuations and fairness opinions. Sean is a graduate of UBC with a degree in commerce and holds a chartered accountant designation. He was named one of Business in Vancouver’s ‘Top Forty Under 40’ in 2007. Christopher Philps As executive vice president, Christopher Philps is responsible for leading the development and land acquisition activities of Polygon Homes Ltd. One of British Columbia’s leading home builders, Polygon has received numerous awards of distinction for its integrity and building excellence. Mr. Philps has been active in the real estate and development industry in Vancouver for the past 25 years. Born in Vancouver, Mr. Philps was educated at the University of British Columbia, where he earned a B.A. in geography and a diploma in urban land economics. He is a graduate of the advanced management program at Harvard Business School. Yuen Pau Woo President and CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, member of the standing committee of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) and coordinator of PECC’s annual State of the Region report, Yuen Pau Woo is a leader in British Columbia’s Asia Pacific relationship. Mr. Woo is an advisor to the Shanghai WTO Affairs Consultation Centre and the Asian Development Bank, and is on the international advisory council of the Asia Society in New York. Born in Malaysia, Mr. Woo was educated at Lester B. Pearson College, Wheaton College, the University of Cambridge, and the University of London. Paola Yawney As vice-president LP relations at Tricor Pacific Capital, Paolo Yawney is a key member of the investment transaction team, and manages Tricor’s investor relations and marketing activities. Prior to joining Tricor in 1998, she was the property sector analyst in the Philippines office ABN Amro. Ms. Yawney obtained a bachelor of science degree in business management from Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines and a masters of business administration from Pepperdine University in California.
